Cartridge filters work by physically trapping solid particles from a fluid (liquid or gas) using a porous filter element. The fluid passes through the filter, and the particles larger than the filter's pore size are captured, allowing clean fluid to pass through. Over time, these trapped particles can build up, forming a filter cake that can improve filtration but also eventually clog the filter.
