Working Principle
During transformer operation, temperature variations cause transformer oil to expand and contract. When the transformer cools, outside air is drawn into the conservator tank. Before entering the transformer, this air passes through the silica gel breather, where moisture is absorbed by the indicating silica gel crystals. Only dry air enters the transformer, preventing moisture contamination of transformer oil and preserving its dielectric properties.
As the silica gel absorbs moisture, it changes colour, indicating that regeneration or replacement is required.
